Designer SE Installation and Updating with 3D Software
Attention: If you have 4D software, do not follow these instructions.
4D includes the DSE Communication file in the program. Instead,
click on #7 at the top of my tips list for installing the program
and the machine.
When you install the Designer SE CD called #D Embroidery Software,
3D Quickfont, 3D Organizer, computer connection, the machine must
be plugged into an electric outlet and the USB cable that came
with the machine should be plugged into the machine and into the
USB port of the computer.
It would be advisable to always use the same port each time you
update the machine.
Designer SE Communication CD
1. Attach the cable that came with your machine to the machine
and the computer USB port. DO NOT turn the machine on at this time.
2. Insert the CD into the computer CD drive and let it start up
and read each screen as it comes up. Most of the time, you will
be clicking on “NEXT”.
3. At some point, the computer will tell you to make sure the
machine is attached to the computer via the cable and the machine
needs to be turned ON.
4. Once it’s turned on, the computer will recognize that
a new device has been attached to the port and the Wizard will
appear. It will ask you 3 questions about letting Windows search
for the driver. But, the driver is right on that CD, so you should
choose the one that says “Not this time”. Make sure
you wait until the message appears that says the device is now
ready to use.
5. Continue on with the installation and read each screen and
make the necessary choices.
6. The DSE will be the choice for “Send 1”, but if
you have another machine, then be sure that when the screen asks
if you need the Send 2, you choose that and click on the arrow
to choose your machine. Or you can choose "send" to
the embroidery stick.
7. Other choices are what color screen you want in your program
and what grid lines and output file format and thread.
8. When it asks for the registration and you want to register
on line, you make that choice and it will connect to the internet
so you can register.
9. When you look at the lower right side of your screen, you will
see a sewing machine icon which represents that the machine is
turned on and connected to the computer.
If the Icon has a red line through it, then the machine is not
turned on.
10. Now, let’s check to be sure you can access the computer
Drives on the sewing machine. Touch the folder on the “toolbar” (File
Manager) and you can access the built in designs, the built in
fonts and the USB devices.
We know that we connected the machine to the computer using a
USB cable, so if we touch on that icon, we will see the A drive
(you can purchase an external floppy drive), the C drive (your
hard drive) and the D drive ( you can purchase an external CD drive)
and if you have the embroidery stick in the machine, it will show
that too.
Touch on the C drive and you will access the C drive of your computer
if you click on “open”. Touch 3D Embroidery and then “my
designs” and all the categories of folders holding designs
will appear.
If you touch on one of them and then click “open”,
all the designs in that folder will appear on screen. If you touch
on one of them and touch “load”, that design will appear
on the Customizing screen.

UPDATING THE DESIGNER SE
You must be on the internet. When you update, the machine must
be plugged in and the cable attached as before. The SE Communicator
will be active when the machine is plugged in and turned on. It
would be advisable to always use the same port each time you update
the machine.
The Designer SE tray icon must be active on the bottom right
of your computer screen. The icon will look like a white sewing
machine when active. When inactive, it will have a red circle with
a red slash through it.
You can open the Configureprogram and then click
on either Send 1 or Send 2 and you will see the Designer SE Communicator.
Click on it and the communicator will be active.
Open your Configure program and click on smart
update and you will see that an update is available for download.
Click on the download icon.
Once it's downloaded, turn the machine off.
Double click on the downloaded file.
Hold down the restart button(top left) and the start
buttonand turn the machine ON to put it in the update
mode.
Touch the software updatebutton and wait for it
to finish. The machine will eventually shut down and restart.
You may have your machine in a different room than the computer,
so it's not necessary to keep it attached. But it is necessary
for doing an update.
