Installing the Q Foot

Q foot used on the Viking 1+

This foot can be used with the embroidery unit to stitch out any design for a much nicer stitch-out of the design and the outline. It is NOT limited to embroidery with batting or on terry or plush fabric. As the needle bar moves up and down, it pushes against the arm of the Q foot and the foot presses down on the fabric against the throat plate and forms a
much nicer stitch.

If you purchase the “straight stitch plate”, the stitch-out will be better yet. Because of the smaller hole, the stitch forms much nicer. Just be sure to remove the straight stitch plate
after embroidery or you may be breaking needles because the small hole will not allow zig zag stitching.

To attach: First, make sure the big screw in the back of the ankle is removed. When you start to attach the Q foot, bring it in from the back of the shank and when you see that the needle is pointing towards the hole in the foot, manually turn the handwheel towards you so the needle goes down through hole in the throat plate. This makes it much easier to attach the foot because it makes more room for the arm of the foot to lean on the needle clamp screw.

The arm of the foot should lean on top of the needle screw. Try to push the foot from underneath and to the right and the holes in the ankle and the shank should match up. Use the large screw that came with your machine and has a large head like the needle  screw in the picture above and has a flat end instead of a pointed end.
