D1 Free Motion using decorative stitches

When you want to use some of the decorative stitches on the Designer 1 to do "free motion" embroidery, you must click on the "Set Menu" and click on "more" until you find the "free motions" setting and turn it on.

Choose the decorative stitch you want to use. The screen will tell you to drop the feed dogs so you can freely move the fabric.

Sandwich some batting or quilting fleece in between two pieces of fabric.

Thread the top with your color choice of thread and put "bobbin thread" in the bobbin.

Hold onto the top thread and turn the hand wheel towards you so the needle will pick up the bobbin thread. Pull the thread up and hold both threads together and sew a few stitches in place and then cut the excess thread tails.

Sew fast but move the fabric slowly so the stitches have time to form close to each other and move the fabric up and down in a sort of waving motion.

When you are done, make sure you go back to the "set menu" and turn the "free motion" setting OFF.
