Attention: Smart update used for updating the DSE

You may have problems getting “smart update to reveal the latest update and yet you know there is a new one there. You have your machine connected to the computer via the cable and the machine is ON.

You probably have Vista on your computer and there are some things you will have to turn OFF.

1. Shut down the Firewall by clicking on “start, control panel, security, windows firewall”.

2. Vista has a “user account control”.

Click on “start, settings, control panel , user accounts” and turn off (uncheck) the “user account control”. I personally leave this off because I don’t have anyone but me at my computer so don’t have to worry about anyone making changes. (this is not on the XP computer)

3. I closed my antivirus. Mine is on the task bar and I right clicked and clicked on “Quit”. Yours may say close or exit.

4. Vista has a “side bar icon” on the taskbar. This includes the clock on the right side of the screen. I right clicked on that taskbar icon and shut it down too. If you place your cursor at each of those icons on the taskbar, a pop up will tell you what it is. (This is not on the XP)

Follow the instructions below and once you have the file downloaded, be sure to turn your firewall and antivirus and side bar back on.

I had my machine turned on and connected to the computer and my icon was active.

I had my dongle in the computer.

Open “Configure” and click on “smart update”.

When I clicked on "smart update", I got the screen where I had to type my
name and email address again and then click on "check my details".

My machine had an X too, but I ignored it and clicked on "continue" and then got to the page where the download was. Maybe you didn't scroll down far enough.

For newbies that never did it before, once the file is downloaded, I turn
off the machine.

Then I hold down the "restart button (top left) and the start button" and
turn the machine on at the same time to get it in the update mode.

Then double click on the downloaded file and it will tell you that it's
going to close down the icon on the taskbar.

Click on "software update" and it will start the process of updating the
machine and when it's done, the machine will turn off and restart and the
machine will be updated.

To check the update version, touch the "i" and "my info" and you will see
the new version.
