Buttonholes With The Sensor
Foot
When using the sensor buttonhole foot, make sure you have
interfacing between the fabrics. Practice the buttonhole.
Place the little wire on the buttonhole sensor foot above the
needle threader lever when you plug it into the machine!
The buttonhole foot has etched lines on the front of it.
These lines are important so that every buttonhole will start at the
same place. From the spot where the needle penetrates the fabric to first
line is 1/2", to the second line is 5/8" and to the last line is 3/4".

The average amount of space most patterns call for from
the edge of the fabric to where the buttonhole starts would be the second
line which is 5/8".
Each time you start a buttonhole, make sure you place
the correct line on the edge of the fabric to achieve the correct spacing.
Choose the size buttonhole that you want. The default size
is 5/8" buttonhole or size 16. You can easily change that by clicking
on the "+" or the "-" on the screen. Use the circle chart in your manual
to measure the button or turn it over and measure it from the backside
which is usually flatter and take into consideration the thickness of
the buttonhole to decide which size to use.
Make sure that the white line on the left side of the little
wheel is aligned about at the center of the white area on the wheel before
starting each buttonhole. This is extremely important. Sometimes, when
you put the foot down, the wheel will scoot a little and go off the white
area. You will have to lift the foot slightly and reposition the wheel.
Make sure there is no extra thickness (like a seam) on
one side of the buttonhole to throw it off. The area of the buttonhole
must be very level.
Sew at an even pace and don't take your foot off the pedal
until the buttonhole finishes and ties off. It would be very beneficial
to use the Start/Stop button instead of the foot pedal to make sure every
buttonhole is done at the same speed.
For vertical buttonholes, place the folded edge of the
fabric on the 5/8" mark on the stitch plate. Start sewing at the lower
edge of the marked buttonhole.

If you follow these rules, all of the buttonholes should
be the same size.
