Button foot instructions

Attach the button foot with the wide metal part to the back of the machine and the red lines to the front.

Place the button holder in the holes of the button.

Push the button between the metal prongs and the white plastic upper legs of the foot. The metal prongs are attached to a metal piece attached to the back of the foot. This will allow for the thickness of buttons and the spring action holds the button firmly.

Push all the way back so the button will be lodged well in the foot. This puts the holes of the button in the proper position for stitching. The red lines on the sides of the foot align with the holes in the button.

Lower the presser foot and remove the holder. Choose the “button” stitch. The DSE  automatically lowers the feed teeth. Read your manual to see if you need to do it manually.

Now you will have the opportunity to see if the needle aligns properly with the left hole. If not, use the “stitch width” to move it to the correct position and then turn the hand wheel to make sure it also aligns properly with the right side hole.

Notice the gray knob on the right side that moves forward and backward and the gray prong between the holes of the button. This knob will move that center prong. All the way forward will be the largest thread shank between the button and fabric because that level is much higher for the thread to pass over. This would be appropriate for heavy fabric like wool where you need that extra thread to button the jacket, etc. All the way back will leave no shank.

Notice the shank levels on center prong with knob pushed all the way forward.

Knob pushed all the way back leaves no shank at all. For fine fabric.

medium thread shank.

I let it make 8 to 10 complete stitches and then touch the “reverse” button to tie off the stitch.
