Tips & Techniques

Using Embird to read the Designer 1 Fonts disks that came with the machine.

These files cannot be used from the lettering page. They will be individual designs for each letter.

Let's make a folder to hold the Kallagraphia fonts. Right click on “start and click on explore”. Scroll up to the C drive and click on it.

On the right side of the screen, right click on an empty space and click on “new, folder”. Type:

!Kallagraphia and touch the “enter key” to register that name . Notice that I typed an exclamation mark in front of the word so it would land right at the top under the C drive so you can find it easily.

Insert the Kallagraphia disk in the computer and click on the “3 ½ floppy A drive” so it will read the disk. You will see menus on the right side of the screen along with another file.

Hold down the “control and A keys” to highlight all those files. Left click and HOLD the button and drag those files to the folder that you just made under the C drive.

OR

Once they are highlighted, click on “copy” and then click on that new folder you made and click on “paste” so all the menus will go into that folder. Remove the floppy disk and put it away for safekeeping.

The reason I am having you make this folder under the C drive instead of just inserting the disk and converting in Embird is that there will be too many files added to the disk and it won't hold that much information. You never want to mess up an original disk. Of course, when I got the Disks, I also made copies of them in case something happened to the original.

Embird:

Open Embird and double click on the C drive and double click on that new folder. All the menus will appear. If you “right click” on each menu, you can rename it.

Menu 1 is 30mm Caps
Menu 2 is 30mm small letters
Menu 3 is 30mm numbers

Menu 5 is 20mm caps
Menu 6 is 20mm small letters
Menu 7 is 20mm numbers

Menu 9 is 12mm caps
Menu 10 is 12mm small letters
Menu 11 is 12mm numbers

Double click on Menu 1 to read all the files in it. Hold down the control and A key to highlight all of them.

Right click anywhere on the highlighted list of fonts and click on “convert files” and then choose the Pfaff VIP or vp3 or the Husqvarna HUS format. Click on Ok and they will all convert to that format.

We don't need the SHV ones, so touch the arrow by “all supported files” (under filter) and scroll down to the SHV format and click on it. Only the SHV ones will appear. Use the control and A key to highlight all of them. Right click somewhere in the highlighted designs and click on “delete”. Click on that arrow again and choose “all supported files” and the others will show up again.

Then go on to menu 2, etc. and do the same thing. for all the menus. When you are done with those, then do the next disk the same way by making a folder for it first.

You can move these files wherever you want them later.
